Johnson Matthey came into being nearly two centuries ago and has always focused on developing chemical products and components with high added value, always keeping up with growth in state-of-the-art technologies. Today the Group has organized its operations into four distinct units: Catalysts & Chemicals manufactures catalysts (a substance that increases the speed of a reaction) and catalytic converters, which control and reduce pollution. Precious Metals focuses on platinum and gold, which it extracts and processes. These precious metals are used for a variety of purposes, from jewelry to dentistry and to manufacture crucibles (for metal smelting) and electrodes. Colors & Coatings produces pigments and coatings for glass, ceramics and plastic. Finally, Pharmaceutical Materials, which, as its name suggests, supplies the pharmaceutical industry with vital components for developing drugs, such as cistoplatine and carboplatine, used for cancer drugs.
